Anthony Wayne Food Service Department Adjusts to new State and Federal Guidelines
Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, there were some noticeable changes in the cafeteria lunch lines. Due to Senate Bill 210 (State of Ohio legislation), public school districts were required to make some changes to the types of foods they offer students during the school day as well as limit portion sizes of some of the foods offered. The new guidelines were mandated to be in place by July 1, 2011. While school lunches may not look all that different, the a la carte lines definitely will. These regulations also applied to food and beverage vending machines that are accessible to students during the school day as well as periods before or after school in which students are participating in school-sponsored extracurricular activities and/or academic programs. The Anthony Wayne Food Service Department also adjusted menu items and choices to adhere to new Federal guidelines set to take effect next year. The Food Service department will be adjusting menus accordingly and survey student to elicit feedback on the changes. “It is important that we follow all State and Federal guidelines while providing an attractive and good tasting product,” said food service director Jeri Mier. “We know that some of the items we had to remove from the menu will be missed, but hopefully we can provide some popular alternatives.” For more information regarding State regulations and guidelines go to http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/3313.814 http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/3313.814.
